چکیده
prediction of fluid-elastic instability is a great matter of importance in designing cross-flow tube bundles from the perspective of vibration. in the present paper, the threshold of fluid-elastic instability has been numerically predicted via simulation of incompressible, unsteady, and turbulent cross-flow through a tube bundle in a normal triangular arrangement. the conditions of simulation is the same as a previous experiment. a finite volume solver, based on cartesian-staggered grid, has been implemented and the interactions between fluid and structure are solved fully coupled method of solving flow and structure equations in each time step. the fluid-elastic instability was predicted and analyzed by presenting the structural responses, trajectory of flexible cylinders, and critical reduced velocities.

Numerical simulation of oxidation processes in a cross-flow around tube bundles
An oxidation process is simulated for a bundle of metal tubes in a cross–flow. A fluid flow is governed by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. To describe the transport of oxygen, the corresponding convection–diffusion equation is applied. The key point of the model is related to the description of oxidation processes taking into account the growth of a thin oxide film in the quasi–stat...
متن کاملRichtmyer-Meshkov Instability and Gas-particle Interaction of Contoured Shock-tube Flows: a Numerical Study
In this paper, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is utilized to characterize a prototype biolistic delivery system, the biomedical device based on the contoured-shock-tube design (CST), with the aim at investigating shocks induced flow instabilities within the contoured shock tube. The shock/interface interactions, the growth of perturbation at an interface between two fluids of different dens...
متن کاملVisualization of Numerical Unsteady Fluid Flows
Instantaneous streamlines are commonly used to visualize particle paths in steady flows. It is shown, however, that streaklines are often more appropriate for unsteady flows. The typical size of unsteady flow simulations makes interactive visualization difficult if not impossible. Two common approaches for visualizing unsteady flows are described. The advantages and disadvantages of each are di...

متن کاملNonlinear elastic instability in channel flows at low Reynolds numbers.
It is presently believed that flows of viscoelastic polymer solutions in geometries such as a straight pipe or channel are linearly stable. Here we present experimental evidence that such flows can be nonlinearly unstable and can exhibit a subcritical bifurcation. Velocimetry measurements are performed in a long, straight microchannel; flow disturbances are introduced at the entrance of the cha...
متن کاملNumerical Approximation of Viscoelastic Flows in an Elastic Medium
We study the numerical approximation of a flow problem governed by a viscoelastic model coupled with a one-dimensional elastic structure equation. A variational formulation for flow equations is developed based on the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method and stability of the time discretized system is investigated. For decoupled numerical algorithms we consider both an explicit scheme of ...
